Business & Brand Strategy.. Branding. Naming. Tourism & Hospitality.

Thirty years of regenerative farming, turned into a hospitality experience.

Casa Vale da Lama is the hospitality project born from Quinta Vale da Lama, a 43-hectare organic farm in Lagos, Algarve. As the property expanded, its brand had to grow with it, carrying the full depth of thirty years of practice and speaking to the right audience rather than trying to reach everyone.

Challenge.

The existing brand wasn't built to hold what Casa Vale da Lama had become. It couldn't convey the project's depth, and it wasn't speaking to the people who would actually value it. Before any visual work could begin, the target itself had to tredefined.

Context.

Walt and Nita came to Portugal looking for another rhythm of life: closer to nature, closer to people. In 1994, they founded an association in Serra de Monchique to create learning experiences for children and support local families. In 2003, a fire destroyed the mountain, and the project lost its home. Searching for new land, they found in Lagos a chance at a new beginning, well planned for sustainability. With it came permaculture, food production, a community, and, to sustain it all, agrotourism.

Casa Vale da Lama is the next chapter: stay, restaurant, spa, pool, and hands-on farm experiences, all designed as an entry point into what the project has been teaching for three decades. A new architectural language, built on the principle of vernacular architecture, was shaped to sit inside the landscape rather than dominate it.

Strategy.

We started by identifying the most relevant target. We chose not to build for the Algarve's mass-tourism market, but for a cultural fit: nature lovers drawn to the sun and disconnection, and eco-conscious travellers seeking authentic, low-impact experiences they can actually learn from. The trends back the direction: 83% of travellers now say sustainable tourism matters to them, and the global agritourism market is projected to grow from $60.89B in 2024 to $79.9B by 2028.

Casa Vale da Lama

Since currently, in Portugal, 80% of visitors seeking this kind of stay are foreing, we positioned Casa Vale da Lama as a Mediterranean address, competing with Ibiza, Menorca, and Tuscany, where sustainability differentiates by degree rather than kind. The task was to make clear that Casa Vale da Lama's difference was real.

Concept.

We defined the positioning “fully immersive Mediterranean regenerative farm stay in Algarve, Lagos”. Three keywords carry the weight of thirty years of work.“Regenerative” because sustainability was never the ceiling. Vale da Lama focuses on agriculture that rebuilds soil and biodiversity, and offers experiences that restore body, mind, and soul, hospitality that reconnects people and land, practices that regenerate the local community and Mediterranean tradition.
“Farm” because Vale da Lama works the land it stands on. Hands-on farming to grow produce on-site and serve it farm-to-table. Going beyond a countryside backdrop to offer guests a deep, living connection to seasons and cycles. “Stay” because it’s a temporary home where transformation happens on its own, with time to slow down and space to rest and reflect.

“The farmhouse is the golf-course of the 21st Century.”
Claus Sendlinger, founder of the Design Hotels Network

Visual identity.

For the visual identity, we merged the land with the “casa”, creating the concept of “agri-tecture”: modern, minimalist language that finds common form between the new architecture and an enxada. the hand tool that symbolises the start of regeneration. Farm and hospitality merge into a single visual system, with the land as the starting point and comfort layered atop it for those seeking refuge.
